POTTER’S WHEEL HALF DAY WORKSHOP | 3 HOURS | £110pp
Discover the fundamentals of wheel throwing in this hands-on workshop for beginners (ages 16+). With expert guidance and plenty of time at the wheel, you'll learn essential pottery techniques, build confidence working with clay, and create your own unique pieces. A perfect introduction to ceramics and a great foundation for our 5-week courses.
WHAT TO EXPECT
After a warm welcome, your workshop will begin with a demonstration from studio owner Alan, who will introduce the key principles of wheel throwing and guide you through the process step by step. You'll then move to your own wheel and begin working with clay, learning essential techniques such as centring, opening and shaping forms. Throughout the session you'll receive plenty of guidance and encouragement as you practice, refine your technique and build confidence at the wheel.
Midway through the workshop, a second demonstration will introduce techniques for creating larger pieces and address some of the common challenges beginners encounter. With unlimited clay available throughout the session, you'll have the freedom to experiment, develop your skills and create a variety of forms.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have gained a solid understanding of the fundamentals of wheel throwing and created a range of pieces that reflect your learning and progress.
Choose two of your favourite pots to take home on the day, carefully boxed for transport (additional pieces can be taken home for £4 each). Pots will air dry naturally and can be painted at home, making attractive decorative pieces for display, candles or dried flowers. Alternatively, pots can be left with us for firing and glazing at £20 per pot. This process takes approximately 4–5 weeks, after which your finished pieces will be ready for collection and fully functional for food and drink.
