FESTIVE BOTANICAL CASTING WORKSHOP

Learn the art of botanical relief casting as you transform seasonal winter foliage into your own collection of beautiful, handmade Christmas decorations.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The workshop begins with a step-by-step demonstration, where you’ll learn how to prepare and roll a clay slab to create a smooth base for your designs. You’ll then choose from a selection of seasonal winter foliage and be guided in how best to arrange and roll it into the clay to capture its textures, shapes and fine details.

Once your designs are ready, we’ll carefully pour plaster into the impressions and leave them to set. The number of decorations you make will depend on the size and combination of moulds you choose. Smaller designs can be fitted together to make up to eight decorations, while larger designs will take up more space on the clay slab.

While the plaster sets, there’ll be time to enjoy some festive refreshments and learn about the finishing techniques you’ll use to complete your decorations.

Then comes the reveal — peeling away the clay to uncover your botanical casts, with the textures and forms of the foliage beautifully captured in plaster.

Before you leave, choose from a selection of coloured velvet ribbons to take home with your decorations, ready to attach once fully dry (usually after a few days), ready to hang and enjoy throughout the festive season.
